June 2022 2nd Sunday Drive to Mountainair

Members of the Albuquerque BMW Zs had a nice drive to Mountainair, NM  on Sunday, June 12, 2022. We met at  Smith’s on Central and Tramway and after a brief session of kicking tires we headed east on old Route 66 to the Village of Tijeras. From there we went south on the Salt Missions Trail Scenic Byway via NM 337 to NM 55 through Tajique, Torreon and Manzano. The temperate was in the high 70’s east of the Manzano mountains making for perfect top-down driving. We were planning to  have lunch at the historic Shaffer Hotel in Mountainair, but unfortunately the dining room was not open due to staffing problems. We did get a nice tour of it including  its unique Pueblo Deco architecture – like the KiMo Theater in Albuquerque. We then took a run on the Abo Pass Trail Scenic Byway (NM 47) to Belen for lunch.
